Maths Curriculum Progression Documents

As our maths policy states...at our school we actively promote these main aims of our curriculum…

  • Reach their full potential
  • Be engaged and creative to excite and enthuse
  • Be curious about mathematics, fostering a love of the subject
  • Develop rich connections across mathematical ideas and within other subjects such as science
  • Develop fluency to enable children to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately
  • Reason mathematically, understanding and using appropriate mathematical language
  • Develop a competence for solving a variety of problems
  • Understand the importance of mathematics in the world around them
  • Ensure that every child is taught by a member of the teaching staff who has good subject knowledge and access to relevant training
  • Continue learning at home by ensuring that parents understand each stage of their child’s maths journey using consistent approaches taught in school

Our curriculum is delivered through 8 different threshold concept. The threshold concepts of our curriculum are seen below and each has a road map to show the progression of teaching from Early Years right through to Year 6. These strands and threshold concepts are constantly revisited to ensure key knowledge is secured in to children's long-term memory.
